What is Metabolic Syndrome?:

It’s More Than Blood Sugar.

The association and convergence of certain metabolic disorders with cardiovascular disease is known as Metabolic Syndrome. Here several metabolic disorders come together to create a significantly greater health risk than each of the disorders individually. The convergence of Hypertension (high blood pressure), Hyperlipidemia (high blood fats), Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) and glucose intolerance (Hyperglycemia and Hypoglycemia) are the most common precursors to Metabolic Syndrome. It is at this stage that health conditions require serious attention, and a series of costly daily dietary, meal planning, pharmaceutical and rigorous exercise regimes are required.

*Metabolic Syndrome is typically defined by the convergence of any three of the following health conditions in one individual:

  • Abdominal obesity – having a waist circumference over 40 inches in most men, and over 35 inches in most women
  • Serum triglycerides – 150 mg/dl or above when clinically diagnosed
  • HDL cholesterol – 40 mg/dl or lower in most men, and 50 mg/dl or lower in most women when clinically diagnosed
  • Blood pressure – 130/85 or more
  • Fasting blood glucose – 110-126 mg/dl or higher
